MPs voted yesterday by 383 to 73 to extend same-sex-marriage to Northern Ireland which is the last major region of the UK where same-sex-marriage is not yet legal. So 73 MPs were prepared to prohibit gays & lesbians having marriage equality thus every last one of those 73 proving themselves homophobic bigots. Obviously amongst the 73 homophobic MPs who voted against extending same-sex-marriage to Northern Ireland were the parliamentary presence of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). It shouldn’t be any surprise the DUP are homophobic bigots after all they’ve along history of sectarian bigotry, having been founded by infamous evangelical Christian hate-preacher Ian Paisley who would have thought the country of Gilead depicted in the Handmaid’s Tale was frigging paradise on earth, yeah well my response to the DUP voting against same-sex-marriage being extended to Northern Ireland is if they wish Northern Ireland to remain part of the United Kingdom as they dearly profess they want it to be then I suggest they adopt & respect those laws reinforcing LGBTQ equality which there are in the rest of the UK!

Journalist & television presenter Esther Rantzen said about a decade ago that people in Northern Ireland were ‘addicted to hate’, it’s certainly the one place in the UK in desperate need of a serious atheist enema because not only is Northern Ireland a place where there appears to be a tolerance for religious intolerance being rife but religious intolerance is fucking celebrated! Rather then every summer there being Pride parades in Northern Ireland celebrating peace, love & acceptance of diversity, people in Northern Ireland prefer to have parades celebrating sectarian bigotry & riots on the streets about a battle fought over 300 years ago. Protestant Orange Lodge type bigots will no doubt prove my point when it comes to sectarian bigotry because they’ll likely accuse me of being prejudice against them on the grounds I’m a Celtic F.C supporter thus I must be a Catholic sympathiser, regardless of the fact I’m an atheistic Jew & no friend of the Roman Catholic Church for all the heinous bullshit its been responsible for throughout the centuries, but yes I’m prejudice I’m prejudice against those who are prejudice against stuff people can’t help like being LGBTQ & if I did live in Northern Ireland I would vote Sinn Fein because as well as being economically socialist they unlike the DUP are fully support LGBTQ equality.
Ah but of course the sectarian & homophobic DUP bigots will say that same-sex-marriage goes against the word of their mystical sky daddy. Just as much as people being instructed what to do by fairies at the bottom of the garden doesn’t trump secular law nor does what’s written in some old crusty book which nutcase religious zealots reckon is the word of their make belief sky daddy. God, Allah, Yahweh or the Flying Spaghetti Monster ain’t real, but LGBTQ people are real & prohibiting them from having equality has a real impact upon their quality of life. Nobody is stopping anybody in Northern Ireland praying to whatever mystical entity they want just prohibiting the belief in some mystical entity as an excuse for bigotry towards the LGBTQ community (particularly state sponsored bigotry), which is how it should be in a modern secular liberal democracy.
Anyways before all us LGBTQ activists go woo-frigging-hoo about same-sex-marriage being extended to Northern Ireland, a word of caution because even though MPs voted overwhelmingly to extend same-sex-marriage to Northern Ireland, it’s as yet not going to be fully legal in Northern Ireland & might still not be due to legalities there are regarding the situation of the Northern Ireland Assembly, essentially the devolved Northern Ireland Assembly hasn’t sat in session since 2017 when the devolved power sharing government executive collapsed due to a bitter row between the DUP & Sinn Fein, if matters can’t be resolved by October 21st then there’ll be a return to direct rule from Westminster which certainly won’t be good for peace in Northern Ireland but it would mean same-sex-marriage automatically becoming legal in Northern Ireland, if however by October 21st the DUP & Sinn Fein manage to resolve their differences & there’s a return of the power sharing government in Northern Ireland then the issue of same-sex marriage would be a matter for the Northern Ireland Assembly to decide & as the DUP will have a majority of seats in the Assembly same-sex-marriage wouldn’t become legal in Northern Ireland.
Considering the amount of hate there appears to be rife in Northern Ireland, imposing same-sex-marriage wouldn’t be such a bad thing, not just because LGBTQ equality is a fundamental human right, but because all LGBTQ people in Northern Ireland want to do is the same as LGBTQ people want to do elsewhere which is to celebrate love one another & by enabling LGBTQ in Northern Ireland to celebrate love for one another it might help spread the love in a place where a great deal more love is sorely needed.
