Last week was the week I decided to take a break from writing & of course this had to be the very week when all fucking heck broke lose politically here in the UK, with Jeremy Corbyn offering to lead a government of national unity to prevent a No-Deal-Brexit & soon after call a General Election.
For Jeremy Corbyn to become Prime Minister in a government of national unity, Labour would have to first win a parliamentary vote of no confidence in the current Tory government, now there is a very real possibility Labour could in fact win such a vote with the support of all MPs from opposition parties as there are a substantial number of Tory MPs opposed to there being a No-Deal-Brexit who’d be prepared to vote the government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson down if Boris plumps for a No-Deal-Brexit which at this stage if Boris wants to keep to the October 31st deadline is logistically the only form of Brexit he & the Tory government can plump for. Jeremy Corbyn & the Labour leadership have said they’d be prepared to table a motion of no confidence when parliament reconvenes week after next if MPs from opposition parties would be prepared to back Jeremy in becoming Prime Minister in a government, but of course the Liberal Democrats have been acting like awkward fuckwits in response to this & as a consequence could cause a No-Deal-Brexit the very thing they claim to fundamentally oppose.
The one thing everybody knows these days about the Liberal Democrats is that they are the Pro Remain party who want there to be a second referendum on EU membership, they’re also the party who have constantly accused the Tories & Labour on the issue of Brexit of putting party interest ahead of the national interest which is certainly true in regards to the Tories which is what got us into this mess in the first place, but here now are the Lib Dems putting their own party interest ahead of the national interest when it comes preventing a No-Deal-Brexit so they can feel important as a minor party. I concede as we are in a hung parliament scenario that the votes of Lib Dem MPs are more crucial, but I don’t see any other option at this stage in preventing a No-Deal-Brexit other then backing Jeremy Corbyn to lead a government of national unity & by the Lib Dems refusing to back this they’re helping to expedite a No-Deal-Brexit which is goes against the very reason why I’d imagine the vast majority of people who’ve voted Lib Dem have opted to vote Lib Dem since the Brexit result of 2016’s EU Referendum, but of course this wouldn’t be the first time the Lib Dems had cheated those who had voted for them, I mean if there’s one thing I’ve learnt about the Liberal Democrats over the years its they truly are the party who say one thing & do another.
An acquaintance of mine who’s a Liberal Democrat perspective
parliamentary candidate said to me there are other options to preventing a
No-Deal-Brexit then Jeremy Corbyn leading a government of national unity though
they didn’t actually elaborate as to what those options were, I know there are
possibly various parliamentary procedures which MPs could attempt in trying to
prevent a No-Deal-Brexit, but what I think my Lib Dem acquaintance might be
referring to with there being other options in preventing a No-Deal-Brexit then
Jeremy Corbyn being Prime Minister of a government of national unity is Lib Dem
leader Jo Swinson saying they’d be prepared to back a government of national
unity led by Labour if the Labour leader were Yvette Cooper or Hilary Benn or
Emily Thornberry or any other MP other than Jeremy Corbyn. Why is it I get the
impression that Chuka Umunna has had a hand in this bullshit Jo Swinson has
been spouting that the Lib Dems would back a Labour led national government of
unity if Labour replaced Jeremy Corbyn as leader, being as Chuka defected from
Labour via Change UK to the Lib Dems because a democratic-socialist was
actually elected leader of a democratic-socialist party & Chuka is way too
much of Blairite twat, he really does seem to have so much hatred for Corbyn
that he’s willing to cut off his nose off to spite his face but hey it rather
appears that so are the rest the Lib Dem Party when it comes to preventing a No-Deal-Brexit,
for fucks sake Jo Swinson has spent the past week lying & smearing Jeremy Corbyn
on social-media saying he won’t fight for Remain despite Corbyn having
explicitly said on numerous occasions that Labour support there being a second
referendum & would back Remain in that referendum which correct me if I’m
wrong is pretty much the same stance as the Lib Dem position duh!
The Liberal Democrats can dream on about Labour replacing
Jeremy Corbyn as leader, there is absolutely fuck all chance of that happening,
so here’s my message to the Lib Dems is to stop acting like awkward fuckwits
& grasp the only choice is to back Jeremy Corbyn if they truly want to
prevent a No-Deal-Brexit & there being any chance of a second-referendum which
is what they claim they fundamentally want.
Of course Chuka Umunna is joining the Lib Dems having
already left the Labour Party back in February to form the Independent Group which
became Change UK, originally with other disgruntled Blairites including Angela
Smith & Chris Leslie pissed because they couldn’t oust Jeremy Corbyn as
Labour leader, okay I could sympathise with Luciana Berger’s motivations for
leaving Labour considering the deluge of antisemitic abuse she was being subjected
to by supposed Corbyn supporters, but as for Chuka Umunna playing political
musical fucking chairs, the fact he’s been a member of three different
political parties inside 6 months, it ain’t fucking fair on the voters pf
Streatham. The voters of Streatham elected Chuka Umunna thinking he was
representing Labour a party which opposed & continues to steadfastly oppose
austerity, only now to have Chuka Umunna represent the Lib Dems the party who
more than bloodied themselves in aiding the Tories in wreaking austerity upon
the most vulnerable in society, so Chuka Umunna are you going to stand down
& let there be a by-election to give the opportunity for your constituents to
say whether they want a Lib Dem to represent them, whether they want to be represented
by a member of a party who at most has given a mealy-mouthed apology for the austerity
they helped to inflict when they thought you represented opposition to such
cruel opposition. Nah Chuka you won’t give the voters of Streatham the
by-election they deserve because you know they’d tell you to fuck off big time
because they had thought you were represented fuck off to austerity, oh I’m
going to love it, I’m going to fucking love it, come the results coverage at
the next General Election & seeing you get electorally beat, deposed,
Who knows if Change UK are in fact the last party Chuka
Umunna will walk away from, I’d not say it’s impossible in 3 or 4 months from
now he defects from the Lib Dems to the Tories, but as for Change UK which for
now is the current latest party which Chuka Umunna has departed, well they’re
being forced to change their name after a legal dispute. Apparently petitions
website Change.org have threatened to sue Change UK’s remaining MPs if they don’t
change the name of their party. I always objected to the name Change UK not
because I’m stupid enough to confuse it with Change.org, but due to the fact
the last thing Change UK want is change, they wanted the same old Blairite bullshit
which had been worn out completely by 2008’s financial crisis if not prior, well
I’ve got a few suggestions for alternative names for Change UK, how about ‘Middle
Of The Road Mediocrity’, no bollocks to that lets cut to the chase with ‘Disgruntled
Blairites United’, actually more apt would be ‘Blairite Malcontent Losers’.
Because the Liberal Democrats & The Green Party were the two parties who had the best local election results & because both parties have been the two parties who put the most effort into vigorously opposing Brexit, Remainers have drawn the conclusion that the local election results equal there being a ‘remain backlash’, I’m personally far more cautious in drawing the conclusion these local election results are a ‘remain backlash’, as often said one swallow does not a summer make & I’d wait until after May 23rd & we know the results of the European Parliamentary Elections to draw any conclusions as to whether there’s a definite change in attitude towards Brexit amongst the electorate.
Yes on the face of it, UKIP’s vote collapsing & the two parties who have been most ardent in opposing Brexit coming out on top with net seats gained at the local elections does seem as if there might be a change of attitude amongst the electorate towards Brexit, it’s certainly weird considering time & time again during the local elections campaign it was reported that canvassers from all parties were being met on the doorstep with hostility about Brexit not being delivered, however my explanation for the Lib Dems doing as well as they did is that this is a return to the Lib Dems being the electorate’s favourite protest vote.
Prior to the 2010 General Election the Liberal Democrats were always the electorate’s favourite protest vote, but in the aftermath of the 2010 General Election & the Lib Dems jumping into bed with the Tories, it was UKIP who emerged as the alternate protest vote whilst the Lib Dems were busy propping up David Cameron’s Tory government & losing their deposits at by-elections & having lousy local election results, I guess now enough time has passed since the end of the coalition government & peeps are now willing to vote Lib Dem again, even though I’d never vote Lib Dem ever again after betray the progressive vote back in 2010 & other local misdeeds, I’m actually glad that things seemed to have reverted back to how they use to be prior to the 2010 General Election, I mean I’d much prefer peeps voted for a party which is supposedly progressively slightly left of centre then vote UKIP who’ve I always thought had a far-right stench about them.
As for the Green Party doing well at these local elections, I think it’s a different reason as why the Lib Dems did well, it was a still a protest vote but a protest vote which has come as a consequence of the recent Extinction Rebellion protests in London pushing the issue of climate change up the political agenda.
Me thinks averting climate catastrophe is a far more important issue then fucking Brexit, yet the Tories by the admissions of their own ministers have been fiddling the figures on carbon reduction to make them look better then the real figures actually are, UKIP are so troglodyte they don’t think man made climate-change is a real thing, the Lib Dems say they want to take action to tackle climate-change but in my experience the Lib Dems perpetually say one thing & do another, as for Labour well there’s talk if they get back into government of reopening frigging coal mines (err what the fuck?!?!), so no wonder peeps might have been voting for the Green Party in larger numbers at these local elections, yes to truly make a difference in tackling climate change it takes multilateral action at an international level, but there’s plenty which can be done at a local level to improve the environment & I hope those Green Party councillors elected on Thursday can make a difference.
